i just drew whatever came to my head. a random sketch is always fun to do. Also, i’ve been posting most of my recent work on my deviantart account. http://calver-o.deviantart.com/
I stumbled upon this artist a little bit ago (literally, isn’t stumbleupon amazing?). His style was sort of what i wanted to shape mine into, His shading technique, anatomic form, and types of facial expressions is what really drew me. And you can’t deny the fact that his drawings just look cool.
here are a few of my favorite sketches of his.

Interesting web hosting and design site I came upon here, Squarespace. I watched the intro video and a couple of recreation of mock sites they did to show the flexibility of their service. Overall, I was pretty impressed of the way they elegantly presented all of these features and examples they had. Their commitment to simplicity and usability is what really drew me in. It sort of reminds me of how we used Dreamweaver back in high school, where we didn’t touch the code, but rather worked within the design tab. Although of course, you’ll be able to touch and manipulate the code any way you please with this level of web hosting service. It embedded that sort of architecture into the service. You unfortunately can’t download the program to update and edit your website, but from what they say,
“Squarespace is a hosted web service. We do not have plans to make a downloadable version, partially because our unique hosting architecture is such a strong point of our service. To put Squarespace on a shared web host would be to ruin it.”
The prices are a bit more than typical web hosting services ranging from a basic 8$ service with 1gb storage, 75 gb per month bandwidth, to a 50$ for 5gb storage, 400gb per month bandwidth. That rate is per month, they don’t do contracts, but again, here’s what they said.
“Why don’t you offer 10,000TB of bandwidth for $2.99?
Because our service is reliable. With a shared web host, they’re able to offer massive amounts of storage and bandwidth because it’s literally impossible to use it. Your site would crash on a shared host if you sent that much data from your site. Seriously — go try it.”
Now, from the way their site is designed, presented, and the clearly professional level examples how their service works. I’d say this is a pretty good catch for someone who is pursuing a more professional market for what they do, but that does not limit what kind of website you can make. Even Kevin Rose, founder of Digg, hosts his web blog from this service. But nobody has to dive in right away! They offer a 14 day trial for anyone who wants to try it out.
Needless to say, I’ve got my eye on this web hosting platform, and looking forward to using that 14 day trial.

Well, Schools starts in 3 days, and I’m all ready to have some structure in how I spend my week. All I have this semester is CGT courses and a calc class ( which i’m dreading ). Other than the calc, I’m looking forward to meeting some new classmates and work on some new projects, It’ll also get me back in the artistic mode I’ve been wanting to get into a habit of.
This summer has been probably my laziest one yet. It’s funny how I had a semi thought out a plan for how I wanted summer to go, but it ended up being a slew of spontaneous occurences. Such is life, and I can’t wait for a new semester to begin. This, of course, means more posts, me not being lazy, and headaches.

A very useful site for those who want to practice poses and/or anatomy. It helps you learn the fluidity and action the pose is supposed to represent. Then as you get better, you polish the details.

Here is a school project for my CGT 141 class last semester. It was designed for the Company Project Future that took special interest in people moving into the area. They would provide them with info about the quality of the education and job availablity in South Bend. Our job was to design a new home page, along with an index of educational establishments in the area. I was in charge of the css and design of the collection of pages, although I ended organizing and doing a little bit of everything so people would actually get stuff done. We did pretty good but they decided not to put it up based on financial reasoning. Oh well, i had fun with this project and I hope i have more assignments like this in the near future.

So i was invited by a friend to do a “tryout” for a video game that is in its preproduction stages. Since i had no official portfolio, I had the following weekend to come up with some intro sketches based on their concept and direction for the game.
